  • Run To The Pub: Iron Maiden To Unleash Signature "Trooper' Beer

Get ready to continue emptying your bank accounts, because yet another band has announced the release of a signature beer. This time, heavy metal icons Iron Maiden will attach their name to a brand of bubbly magic, as ‘Trooper’ ale is set to become available worldwide in May.

Beer and metal music share the tightest of bonds, and though that bond can manifest itself as a sweaty, obnoxious fan sloppily singing Maiden classics at a dive bar karaoke night, we assure you it’s still quite beautiful. Bands such as Motorhead, KISS, AC/DC, Municipal Waste and Pig Destroyer have all attached their names to specialty beer, and Maiden are the next to jump aboard with a traditional British-style ale.

‘Trooper’ ale is currently being crafted by Robinson’s brewery in Stockport, England, home of ‘Old Tom’ strong ale, which was recently named ‘World’s Best Beer’ by Beers of the World magazine. “I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale,” states Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson. “I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous: Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavour and texture that is Trooper. I love it.”

Brew Master Oliver Robinson adds, “Not only do Iron Maiden genuinely enjoy a good pint of cask ale, but so do many of their fans, and they have an important part to play in our customer base. This partnership works for both of us. Music and beer are great treats for the senses in their own right, but the combination is very powerful. Authentic collaborations such as this are invaluable not only to our company but to the industry as a whole, because it shows that the world of real ale is more than just manufacturing, it is liquid artistry by the people who brew it – and for the people who drink it.”

Check out the video player below for a full tour of how Robinson’s are creating ‘Trooper’ ale, with Bruce Dickinson acting as your guide. Iron Maiden’s signature beer will become available in May via IronMaidenBeer.com, and even has its own Facebook page.

  • Former Iron Maiden Drummer Clive Burr Dies At 56.

    By Loudwire.com

Former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr has died at the age of 56. The legendary musician had been suffering from multiple sclerosis for many years, and although an official cause of death has not yet been revealed, the band reports that Burr passed away in his sleep last night at his home.

Clive Burr joined Iron Maiden in 1979, drumming on the band’s iconic first three albums — ‘Iron Maiden,’ ‘Killers’ and ‘The Number of the Beast.’ Burr left Iron Maiden shortly after the release of ‘Number of the Beast,’ and was replaced by current drummer Nicko McBrain by the time Maiden’s next album, ‘Piece of Mind,’ dropped in 1983. Burr went on to perform for acts such as Trust, Stratus, Desperado and others.

“This is terribly sad news,” comments Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris. “Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out. This is a sad day for everyone in the band and those around him and our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Mimi and family at this time.”

“I first met Clive when he was leaving Samson and joining Iron Maiden,” says vocalist Bruce Dickinson, referring to the band they were both in prior to joining Maiden. “He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full. Even during the darkest days of his M.S., Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence. This is a terribly sad day and all our thoughts are with Mimi and the family.”

To aid their beloved former drummer in his fight against Multiple Sclerosis, Iron Maiden began the Clive Burr MS Trust in 2002. The band periodically donated proceeds from live shows to Burr, aiding the drummer tremendously thanks to the heavy metal band’s massive drawing power.

Clive Burr will always be known as one of metal’s finest drummers. A true legend behind the kit, Burr’s work remains essential to this day … and we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Clive Burr. Rest in peace.

The original title of "Kill 'Em All" was "Metal Up Your Ass".

The project features concert staples like “Seek & Destroy,” “Hit The Lights” and “Whiplash.”

The new Kill ‘Em All products are part of a continuing creative partnership between Vans and Metallica.

    #Slashbird

Once in a while an authentic and organic collaboration between artists and brands comes along. After introducing his first two music apps last year, Grammy-winning, iconic guitarist and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee SLASH got a call from Rovio, the creator of the popular mobile game Angry Birds.

A longtime fan of the game since it debuted, Slash and Angry Birds Space have partnered to create the SlashBird character, a theme song performed by Slash and a ringtone.

Check out Slash's exclusive Q&A with Mashable, regarding artists and music/tech partnerships, at this location.

“We're huge Slash fans, and Slash is a huge Angry Birds fan, so this was just an ideal match,” explains Philip Hickey Vice President, Marketing at Rovio. “It all happened very organically and was just a lot of fun on both sides. Our fans will love the track! Slash rocked the Angry Birds Space theme like only he could!"

Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators are currently embarked on their world tour in support of their studio album, Apocalyptic Love. It spawned Slash two first-ever #1 rock radio hits with 'You’re A Lie' and 'Standing In The Sun'. Meanwhile, the album’s third single 'Anastasia”'is on track to break the Top 25 at Active Rock next week. The album was produced by Eric Valentine, who did the same honors for his first solo disc Slash, and all the songs on Apocalyptic Love were written together by Slash and Myles Kennedy.
