While many fans have been patiently awaiting the promise of new Soundgarden tunes as the band keeps an air of suspense surrounding their upcoming reunion album, the wait may finally be over. Rumor has it the reunited band’s first official single from the new disc will impact radio next week, with the tune aptly titled ‘Been Away Too Long’ — isn’t that the truth!

Their new studio album ‘King Animal’ is due out by the end of the year with a reported release date of Nov. 13, according to a listing in Rolling Stone magazine.

The band also recently launched a new website and offered up a little audio snippet of new song called ‘Worse Dreams.’ It’s only 36-second long but packs a lot of punch. Other song titles like ‘Blood on the Valley Floor’ and ‘A Thousand Days Before’ have been revealed, but not yet heard.

‘King Animal’ will mark the band’s first full-length studio album since 1996′s ‘Down on the Upside,’ and according to Thayil, “It re-establishes that we still rock, we’re still heavy, and we’re still a little weird.”

According to an industry insider (via Blabbermouth), the band is also in the thick of acquiring a new recording contract, signing a worldwide deal with Universal Music Group.

Although the band has been quite elusive regarding their future plans, fans are banking on hearing and seeing a lot more of Soundgarden in 2013.

  • Led Zeppelin 02 Arena Live Album Release Date Revealed?

It looks like Led Zeppelin‘s legions of fans may be getting an early Christmas present this year. According to Britain’s Sun newspaper, the powerhouse English blues rockers will release their London 02 Arena show on DVD, Blu-ray and CD this Nov. 22.

The project was recorded and filmed at Led Zeppelin’s reunion gig in 2007, which featured Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham, son of the late Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. In a show staged to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, the legendary musicians ripped through a set that included classics like ‘Good Times, Bad Times,’ ‘Dazed and Confused,’ ‘Black Dog’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ finishing up with ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and ‘Rock and Roll.’

Now it appears the long-rumored official release of that concert is actually set to see the light of day. ‘That Metal Show’ co-hosts Eddie Trunk and Jim Florentine have been hinting at big Zeppelin news, and while the band have made no announcement, they  have been teasing fans with a countdown on their Facebook page. There is speculation that the band will have a big announcement on Thursday, which is perhaps not coincidentally the fifth anniversary of the day they announced the 02 Arena show. The group updated the countdown by posting a II this morning, and have also posted a teaser clip to YouTube that appears to be the lead-in to ‘Good Times, Bad Times,’ the opening song from the 02 gig.

A source allegedly told the Sun the project is a done deal, saying, “Jimmy has been in the studio making sure everything is perfect. The band want it to remain true to their exceptionally high standards. It’s coming out on November 22 as part of a simultaneous global release.”

  • Led Zeppelin "Four" Posting Hints At Pending Announcement

    Posted by Jennifer Taylor

    Facebook / Led Zeppelin

A second Led Zeppelin clue was dropped Sunday morning (Sept. 9) when the band’s Facebook page posted the word “Four” in the band’s familiar script, thus leading to speculation that a countdown was in progress after the previous “Five” posting.
For those doing the math in their heads, if there’s a new number each day that would make Wednesday, Sept. 12 the number “one.” The day is significant in Led Zeppelin history for the fact that it was the day they announced their reunion show in London five years ago.

Could this mean another performance will be coming from the veteran rockers? Not out of the question, but also probably not likely given that Robert Plant already has two projects already in the works for the coming year.

Might it be that a DVD of the special 2007 event is en route? That’s probably a better guess, as a video version of that performance has been rumored for a while. But right now, it’s all just speculation. However, Led Zeppelin’s fans will no doubt have some fun thinking about all of the possibilities over the next few days.

  • Led Zeppelin's "Five" Facebook Post - What Does It Mean?

    Posted by Jennifer Taylor

    Facebook / Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin have posted a picture of the number “five” on their Facebook page, immediately sending the six and a half million people who follow them on the popular social media service into a guessing frenzy.

The legendary group posted the message early Saturday morning (Sept. 8), after posting a simple “hello” the day before. If reports from earlier in this week are accurate, this could be the band’s way of revealing that they will in fact be releasing a DVD of their 2007 reunion concert at the O2 arena in London. After all, that concert happened five years ago.

Led Zeppelin’s first three albums were named only by successive numbers, and their fourth is often commonly referred to as ‘IV,’ but it seems highly unlikely the surviving members of the group — Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones — would reunite for a new studio album at this time. Plant is reportedly in various states of production on albums with two different solo groups — the Band of Joy and the Sensational Shape Shifters.

  • Godsmack's Sully Erna Scolds Uproar FestivalSecurity After Fan Gets Tackled Onstage

    Sully Erna
    Liz Ramanand, Loudwire

Godsmack are currently on tour with the traveling Uproar Festival with Shinedown, Staind, Papa Roach and many more. During the Aug. 31 date in Pittsburgh, Pa., a shirtless fan jumped onstage during Godsmack’s set, and after running around a bit, placed a hat atop the head of frontman Sully Erna. Multiple security guards tackled the fan with the intensity of an NFL linebacker, which prompted Erna to stop midway through a song and give the guards a piece of his mind.

Godsmack had just begun to play ‘Awake’ when the fan rushed the stage. Erna didn’t seem to mind when a fan put a red hat on the frontman, but security at the venue seemed to feel differently. The video of the incident shows two guards running towards the fan and tackling him from opposite directions. The video is a bit shaky, but it appears the guards roughed the fan up a little bit before getting ready to throw him out.

With his eyes locked on the situation occurring on the side of the stage, Erna stopped playing and said, “Way f—ing unnecessary guys. Put him down, seriously, that’s crazy. The kid put a hat on me, it’s okay. I don’t need a f—king medic, let him go back and enjoy the show. It’s called f—ing rock ‘n’ roll.”

The fans in the crowd cheered on Erna, before Godsmack carried on from the second verse of ‘Awake.’

After the Dimbag Darrell onstage shooting and the recent Randy Blythe situation, it’s not surprising that security took action to bring down the fan after he approached Erna onstage, but did they act in a manner which was overly forceful? Take a took at the footage and let us know what you think in the comment section below.
